Illustrating Söder

Public Intervention

What does the eye see first on Söder — rooflines and façades, signs and shop windows, the mix of styles and stories on one and the same street?

During the late 1800s, Helsingborg grew quickly as a port and industrial city. Many businesses were established on Söder, and people lived close to their workplaces. Over time, the neighborhood has been shaped by housing, small businesses, everyday commerce, and movement — alongside an ongoing transformation of the southern harbor and industrial areas.

In this window installation, two works meet across the façade. Adam Younes draws Söder's landmarks and architectural details — a map you can read with your eyes. Sarah Khayat tells, in her painting, the story of a girl flying over Söder — a poetic journey between street and sky, everyday life and dream.

Together, the works invite you to look around: what do you recognize, and what do you discover?
